By 3d Rising Staff This week’s Lax.com Rising High School Games of the Week features several battles among powerhouse programs, including a meeting of defending champions from bordering states in the Northeast. This week also features one of the D.C. area’s biggest rivalry matchups, and two of the most storied programs from Long Island and Baltimore will meet for an exciting crossover contest. Ontario is represented this week as well, as one of the emerging programs out of Canada will take on one of the most respected private school programs from the Midwest. Cold Spring Harbor (N.Y.) at New Canaan (Conn.), April 10 cold springs harbor lacrosse This is a heavyweight matchup to start the week, with the defending New York Class C champion versus the defending Class M champion out of Connecticut. Both teams got off to solid starts, with New Canaan defeating Wilton (Conn.) in its opening game of the year before falling to defending MIAA A Conference champ McDonogh 13-8. Cold Spring Harbor has already defeated Smithtown West (N.Y.) and Syosset (N.Y.) this season and enters the game with a 12-game winning streak. New Canaan goalie Drew Morris (Maryland) opened the year with a nine-save game while the Seahawk’s Matt Licciardi (Cornell) has 14 points in four games this season. St. Augustine Prep (N.J.) at Malvern Prep (Pa.), April 11 malvern prep lacrosse Malvern Prep rebounded from consecutive losses to La Salle College (Pa.) and Haverford (Pa.), running out to a 16-7 win over Gilman (Md.). Billy Coyle (Cornell) has been solid for Malvern Prep this season with 24 points through the first six games. Jack Traynor (Penn State) has been one of the Friars‚Äô biggest weapons so far this season. St. Augustine Prep gets its first national test of the year after posting wins over Pingry (N.J.), Ocean City (N.J.) and Penn Charter (Pa.). St. Anthony’s (N.Y.) at Boys‚Äô Latin School (Md.), April 12 boys latin lacrosse The Friars from Long Island’s Catholic league head to Baltimore for an intriguing showdown of two teams currently ranked in the USA Today High School Sports Super 25. The Lakers have only two losses on their resume, each by one goal, and will be coming off a 12-7 win over a talented Calverton (Md.) team. The Lakers are being led by the talented brother duo of attackman Matt Brandau (Yale) and goalie Chris Brandau (Georgetown). St. Anthony’s freshman Brennan O‚ÄôNeill (Penn State) leads the team with 16 points through four games. Landon School (Md.) at Bullis School, April 13 landon lacrosse These Interstate Athletic Conference giants meet for what is also a USA Today High School Sports Super 25 matchup. This rivalry game saw the Bulldogs take an 11-7 win last year on their way to the program’s first IAC title. Bullis is led this year by standout attackman Alex Trippi (North Carolina). Landon looks like one of the nation’s top teams and is led by face-off guru Justin Shockey (Navy), while Joey Epstein (Johns Hopkins) is having a tremendous junior campaign. The Bears began the year by winning their first eight games. Everest Academy (Canada) at Culver Academy (Ind.), April 14 culver-academy lacrosse Culver Academy rebounded from its first loss of the year, with four-straight wins, which includes victories over Gonzaga (D.C.), McDonogh (Md.) St. Paul’s (Md.) and Brother Rice (Mich.). The Eagles take on an up-and-coming Everest Academy (Ont.) program that started the year against IMG National (Fla.) on March 28. Everest plays six games in seven days before the team travels to Indiana. The Culver games mark Everest’s seventh in seven days, which makes up the bulk of their schedule this season. Culver, on the other hand, is off for two weeks before playing this game. Smithtown East (N.Y.) vs. Massapequa (N.Y.), April 15 smithtown east Smithtown East is looking to get into a groove after coming into the year with high expectations on Long Island. The Bulls have yet to win back-to-back games this year and face rival Smithtown West (N.Y.) and Massapequa (N.Y.) in consecutive games. Connor DeSimone (Johns Hopkins) has played well with 17 points through the first three games this season. Massapequa started the year with five consecutive wins, including a victory that ended the 32-game win streak of St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.), the defending Florida state champion. Brendan Nichtern (West Point) leads the Chiefs with 20 points and 12 goals this season.
