Youth Beginner Lacrosse Equipment Sets
At Lax.com we have two options for youth lacrosse starter sets. The Boys Beginner Lacrosse Equipment Set lets you pick sizes for each piece of equipment and gives you the ability to customize your set by adding different helmets, sticks, or even adding a mouthguard. We suggest this option if your player might have smaller/larger than average hands or arms for their height and weight. For instance, if you have a tall and thin youth player you might need a larger shoulder pad to cover the sternum but smaller arm pads so they don't keep slipping down. This also allows you to upgrade your helmet to the Cascade S Youth, which is a smaller version of the lacrosse helmet seen at collegiate and pro levels of lacrosse.
The second option comes as a 5 piece set including, shoulder pads, gloves, arm pads, a complete stick, and helmet. In this version, you select one size for all the pads which is a convenient option if you're not sure what to get. For a general idea of sizing look at the chart below.
SIZE | AGE | WEIGHT | HEIGHT |
---|---|---|---|
Y-XS |
2 - 4 | Under 40 | Under 35" |
Y-SM | 4 - 7 |
Under 50 |
Under 42" |
Y-M | 8-10 | 50 -70 | 44"-50" |
Y-L |

Required for all players. You can purchase a head and shaft separately or as a complete stick. Some starter sets include a complete lacrosse stick, but we recommend that you start with one that isn't factory strung. If your player has a good complete stick he will not get frustrated with the game. This is the most crucial piece of equipment a new player can have! Some suggested beginner complete sticks are:

Other Gear You Might Need:
Rib Pad - Optional but recommend under age 12, and for Box Lacrosse.
Athletic Supporter/Cup - Required for older players.
Throat Protector - Required for goalies - check with your coach to see what is required if your player is a goalie.
Chest Protector - Required for goalies.  Different then shoulders pads, this protection provides full chest protection.
Practice Balls - Best to start out with a bucket!
Proper footwear is required for all lacrosse players. Men's lacrosse cleat sizes can drop down to as low as size 4, in case your son does not fit into a youth lacrosse cleat. This would be the case for the New Balance Freeze. Men's sizing is not as narrow as a youth cleat.
