In their 2017 college lacrosse home opener, the University of Pennsylvania lacrosse team hosted the sixth ranked Virginia Cavaliers at the famed Franklin Field in Philadelphia, PA. Heading into the game, the Cavaliers stood undefeated at 3-0 with first year head coach Lars Tiffany at the helm and and explosive offense led by Zedd Williams and freshman Dox Aitken while the Quakers opened their season with a win over cross town rival Saint Joseph’s. During the game, Upenn got off to a hot start jumping out to an early 3-0 lead. the the high powered Cavaliers would come roaring back to tie the game and the game would go back and forth until the final moments when Upenn sophomore attack Tyler Dunn buried the game winning goal, giving the Quakers an 11-10 upset victory. Dunn and Aitken each tallied four points apiece to lead the game respectively, while Pennsylvania goalie Reed Junkin was stellar in cage, making 16 saves. Virginia will look to rebound when they return home for match up with High Point while Penn will look to remain undefeated when they travel to Penn State for a showdown with the Nittany Lions.
